What is IOQM ?
The Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM) is the prestigious first stage of India's official Mathematical Olympiad programme. It is conducted by the Mathematics Teachers' Association (India) (MTA(I)) on behalf of the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR).
Students who qualify IOQM become eligible for the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO), the next stage of the Olympiad selection process that eventually leads to the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).
Eligibility Criteria
- Be studying in Class 8 to Class 12 (depending on the official notification).
- Satisfy the age criteria announced by HBCSE.
- Be eligible to represent India at the International Mathematical Olympiad.
- Not be enrolled in a university.
Exam Pattern and Scoring
- Exam Mode : Paper-based (OMR based)
- Number of Questions: 30 questions
- Time Duration: 180 minutes
- Question Type: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and/or Integer Type Questions (answer must be ranging from 00 to 99)
- Correct Answer: +2 point (Quetion 1-10), +3 point (Quetion 11-20), +5 point (Quetion 21-30), each
- Incorrect Answer: 0 points
- Unanswered Questions: 0 points
- There is no negative marking
- Total Score: 100 points
- Calculators allowed : No
IOQM core syllabus
- Algebra: Linear & Quadratic Equations, Polynomials, Inequalities (AM-GM, Cauchy-Schwarz), Sequences & Series, Complex Numbers.
- Number Theory: Divisibility, Prime Numbers, GCD & LCM, Modular Arithmetic, Diophantine Equations, Fermat's Little Theorem.
- Geometry: Triangles, Circles, Quadrilaterals, Coordinate Geometry, Trigonometry, Theorems of Ceva and Menelaus.
- Combinatorics: Permutations & Combinations, Pigeonhole Principle, Counting Principles, Basic Graph Theory, Recurrence Relations.
