What is JEE Advanced?
The Joint Entrance Examination – Advanced (JEE Advanced) is the final and most competitive stage of India's engineering entrance process — the sole gateway to admission at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). It's conducted by one of the seven zonal IITs on a rotational basis, under the Joint Admission Board (JAB).
Only the top ~2.5 lakh JEE Main rankers are even eligible to attempt it. JEE Advanced tests the same Physics, Chemistry, and Maths syllabus as JEE Main, but at significantly greater depth — with multi-concept, multi-step problems designed to separate India's strongest problem-solvers.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must rank among the top ~2,50,000 qualifiers (category-wise) in JEE Main Paper 1
- Maximum of 2 attempts, in consecutive years
- No upper age limit under current norms
- Must have passed Class 12 (or equivalent) in the current or previous year, per the official brochure's specified years
- Must not have previously accepted an IIT seat in an earlier year (with limited exceptions)

Exam Pattern and Scoring
