What is NMTC ?
The National Mathematics Talent Contest (NMTC), organized by the Association of Mathematics Teachers of India (AMTI), is one of India's oldest and most prestigious national-level mathematics competitions.
Designed to foster original, creative thinking, and non-routine problem-solving, NMTC serves as an exceptional launchpad for high-level competitive exams like the IOQM, RMO, and INMO.
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligibility is determined by the student's current grade, with a specific contest for each level. NMTC has categorized students into 5 distinct levels

- Primary (Gauss Contest): Open to students of Class 5 and 6
- Sub-Junior (Kaprekar Contest): Open to students of Class 7 and 8
- Junior (Bhaskara Contest): Open to students of Class 9 and 10
- Inter (Ramanujan Contest): Open to students of Class 11 and 12
- Senior (Aryabhata Contest): Open to undergraduate students pursuing degree courses in Arts, Science, or Technical Institutions
Exam Pattern and Scoring
- Exam Mode : Pen and Paper based (Offline)
- The NMTC is a two-stage examination
- Stage 1: Preliminary Test (Screening Level)

- Questions: Total of 20 questions for the Primary level, and 30 questions for Sub-Junior, Junior, and Inter levels
- Question Type: Objective type (Multiple Choice Questions and Short Fill-in-the-blanks)
- Selection: The top 10% of scorers from each institutional level qualify for Stage 2
- Stage 2: Final Test
