What is IOQM?
The Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM) is the first and most crucial stage of India's official Mathematical Olympiad pathway — jointly conducted by the Mathematics Teachers' Association (India) (MTAI) and the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE).
Introduced in 2021 after merging the earlier PRMO and RMO stages, IOQM tests deep problem-solving ability rather than school-syllabus recall. It's the gateway to RMO, INMO, IMOTC, and ultimately India's team at the International Mathematical Olympiad.
Eligibility Criteria
- Open to students in Classes 8 to 12
- Date of birth must fall within the officially notified age window (roughly ages 12–18)
- Class 12 students must not have appeared for, or completed, board exams before the notified cutoff date
- Must not have started regular college/university studies before the notified cutoff
- Studying in India, or meeting official MTAI/HBCSE eligibility guidelines

Exam Pattern and Scoring
- Format: 30 questions, short-answer (numerical), not MCQ
- Duration: 3 hours
- Questions divided into 3 sections by increasing difficulty
- Evaluation is OMR-based — answers are numeric, filled as digits
- Total marks: 100
- No negative marking — nothing deducted for wrong/blank answers
- Since answers are numeric, partial guessing doesn't help — precision matters
- Cutoffs vary by class and category, announced after each cycle

IOQM is stage one of a five-stage national pipeline that ends with India's six-member team at the International Mathematical Olympiad:
